Things All Candidates Want To See In Your Job Posting

Many people struggle with attracting the right candidates for their roles. They become frustrated that the people applying don’t seem the right fit for many reasons. Unfortunately, the job posting often doesn’t give the candidate what they want to see. In this article, you will learn the five things candidates want to see in job postings. If you cover these in your job posting, careers page, or on social media when recruiting for roles, you will attract the correct type of people who ACTUALLY want to work with you. If you ensure you job postings include the top 5 things candidates want to see, you have a better chance of hiring the right person.

What is the company about? How is the company different? Is it legit?

Someone looking to join your company wants to know what the company does. Nothing is worse than seeing a job position but failing to understand what the company does. I’ve been there before, wondering whether a company was legit. If your company has a shady name or lacks a social presence, it might be hard to attract top talent.

What is a day in life like? What will they do?

What are people going to be doing each day? List out the core responsibilities that this role will do. Doing so gives people a preview of the role, but more importantly, it gives them a chance to self-select out of the process.

How will they be compensated? Salary vs. hourly? Bonuses?

Money matters. People want to know how they will be paid. More importantly, tell them in the job description how much you are willing to pay, as it provides transparency and doesn’t waste anyone’s time. I remember early on in my career, going through a multi-stage interview process, unaware of the compensation. With each interview round, I was told the same thing repeatedly; it was very competitive but nothing specific. It wasn’t even close to competitive when they finally gave me the offer. They wasted my time and theirs throughout the process because I wouldn’t have applied if I had known what they would pay.

What might the perks of the job be? Are there growth opportunities?

Is there travel involved? Will you invest in their professional development? It can’t just be about the paycheck.

Is there any flexibility with schedules, hours, and location worked?

Workplace flexibility matters more now than ever. In my research, it ranks higher than leadership and pay. If the role allows flexibility, such as modified hours or working remotely, offer it. Failing to do so is short-sighted.
